Boston Frisbee

When Joe and I created Boston Frisbee, we wanted to foster a dynamic that was fun, inclusive, and inviting to all. Ultimate frisbee is a sport with a bit of a learning curve. It’s difficult to get good at doing all of the throws, and the rules are a bit different than conventional sports. Because of this, we wanted to impact players’ exposure to the sport, and also create a community that was a bit more inviting than many of the more competitive groups in Boston. Accordingly: Boston Frisbee was born.

I created my half of the group in May of 2007. Joe created his half in November of 2007. Together, we both recruited assistant organizers to help manage our groups. In combination, many of these people became long-term helpers — as well as life-long friends, couples, etc.

Today, Boston Frisbee is organized through Facebook. Here’s a Boston Globe article that was written about my half of the group in 2007 before we became Boston Frisbee.

We played all year round, even on the most bitterly cold days of winter.

We also organized shenanigans like halloween costumes during games.

I organized nighttime games of ultimate with light-up discs and glow stick cones/bracelets/pinnies.

Figured I should include a photo of Ultimate actually being played. Here’s a pic from good ol’ Boston Common. I miss those days!
